BE YOURSELF

It's funny how people grow older and finally "find" themselves. Like when a guy, who back in the day acted a little too lady-like, then 20 years later he's a full blown transgendered man living as a woman! Everyone around him growing up knew he was different, but somehow he didn't feel secure enough to outwardly prance around in makeup and dresses. I'm sure the main reason was FEAR. Fear of being ridiculed by classmates. Fear that society wouldn't "claim your kind" publicly and in a lit of cases, behind the glass door. But later on somehow he got up enough strength to put the lashes on, and the pantyhose, and embody the very essence of what a woman should be. [I was a friends house and this subject came up about one of their old high school classmates. ]

People kill me not being themselves. You sacrifice many years of your life pretending. Wake up and realize that your life is your own. Your own to do what you want without worry about whether or not you will be judged. Everyone has their own issues. No one is perfect. Start accepting others for who they are. Who are you to judge?

I AM ME...

Is Flav a "Coon"?

Is Flava Flav a "coon"? I recently asked myself this question after this article on SOHH.com

Apparently after his yearly rants on the Flavor of Love series and his recent stint on the primetime tv show "Under One Roof", several bloggers and media outlets have came to the conclusion that Flav is undeniably a COON. But you know me "Ms. You Go Right...I Go Left", beg to differ. Now before I start, I don't want people to think that I'll just let any comment fly. I won't. But I will let certain remarks regarding my race fly by because I know that their just jokes. It's ENTERTAINMENT! Richard Pryor, Damon Wayans, Dave Chapelle, Martin Lawrence, etc all have acted out of hand once and have joked about stereotypes. White people make fun of us, Black make fun of Whites. So what? It is what it is. Its been this way for a long time. But because Flav is (black as all out doors) grilled out, wear wack ass outfits, why do he have to be labeled as a coon. Like Chuck D stated, he's known Flav all his life. And he can vouch that the dude has acted this way always.

So media outlets and bloggers, take the word of someone that's closest to Flav. He ain't cooning!!! He's just being himself. Cooning is when a person KNOWS that they are acting out of character and poking at Blacks through stereotypes. Flav is in character, 24-7. So how the h*ll is he a "coon"?

Another MIND bites the dust...

Nasir Jones is slowly but surely loosing his rabbit a** mind. Now, I am a big fan of Nas. But in this recent interview with King Magazine, some of the comments were a little too judgemental. I know everyone has their opinons, but come on now.

Here's a snippet:

Do you remember the first time you were discriminated against because you were black?

The first time I opened up a Superman comic book. The first time I saw Flashdance, with the light-skinned, beautiful bitch who’s chasing after some white cat, which…I don’t have nothing against interracial relationships—love ’em, actually.

Wait. On “These Are Our Heroes,” you mentioned Tiger Woods…

A lot of times, when people look at me, they look too deep into it. Tiger Woods standing up for this white lady who said something about him being lynched is a coon move to me. God bless the brother. I like to see him doing his thing, but that’s a flaw to his character. That’s an issue I would have with Tiger Woods; not who he is married to. I don’t even know who he’s married to.

I’m asking because you shouted out him, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Taye Diggs. They’re all married to white women.

I saw Cuba Gooding do a hand spin or some shit on an awards show—that’s very coonish to me. I can’t remember what Taye Diggs did, but I didn’t know he was married to a white woman. You know who my hero is? Richard Pryor. He was married seven times. My favorite wife of his is Debra, one of the white girls.

I just hope the young lad don't loose his mind like my girl, Lauryn Hill.

Food Inflation...

Today, the Associated Press (AP) released an article discussing the ever-so-inflating prices of food. It was interesting because I have realized that mess too...recently to be exact. I went to Publix last week and noticed that loafs of bread, juice, all that mess has gone up. This is part of the reason why I hate grocery shopping to this day. I live alone. I have no kids. But I still spend a little over $100 everytime I go to the store. WHY???

Well according to the AP, it's because of our screwed up economy that food prices a rising each year. And because of this, they say more and more people are beginning to be conscious about their spending. Less people are eating out. They are preferring to eat at home. Less people are buying generic brands rather than the name brand products (I do too especially when it comes to apple juice and bread...it all taste the same). About 24% of American shoppers are now purchasing food from supercenters such as Walmart because their prices are much cheaper than your regular grocery stores. And to my amazement, the AP says that a family of four spends almost $1000 per month on groceries. Good Golly!!! That's a lot of money for folks who really ain't got it. No wonder these kids be fat nowadays. LOL :)

Anyhoo, if you're like me...just let stuff sit and spoil in your refrigerator because you eat out a lot, save your pennies and go generic and clip your coupons...cuz the last thing you need is to go broke over some ground beef.

Black People....WAKE UP!

Video courtesy of: ConcreteLoop/You Tube

My sentiments exactly!

We as a race really need to wake up. I agree with this guy Darian whole heartedly. Some of us get so caught up on how flamboyant some gay men are or how manly some lesbians are...that they forget to stop and realize that those are regular people too who are just simply living their lives their way. People who are judgemental or homophobic...GET A LIFE! I know everyone has their own opinion and has a right to dissassociate themselves with whomever. But to judge another man (based on a video) without even getting to know him personally...is a hot ass mess.

To my people out there, if this is you...if you are this type of judgemental person, your day of judgement will soon come.

HAPPY M.L.KING DAY
The other day my BFF and I were chatting it up (about everything us gals talk about) while watching the movie Boycott on BET. We jokingly brought up the question, "What ever happened to Little Boy King?" It was funny because we weren't talking about the 80's movie itself, but moreso about the guy who played Dr. King in his early years. Then all of a sudden I spotted the guy playing a deacon on Boycott. We was like, "Awe damn there he go."
Its funny how as a child growing up you remember old movies you use to watch consistenly over and over...year by year. But for some reason, Little Boy King doesn't televise anymore. I wonder why. Hhmmmm. But anyway, that movie along with classroom book reports taught us all more about Dr. King, the civil rights movement, and Black culture as a whole.
Thanks Dr. King for the legacy. Heck if it wasn't for you, we'd be forced to watch yearly premiers of Roots or Eyes On The Prize (which too haven't been on air in some time), or...have this lovely day off from work!!
